All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by

headland

I MUST go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

John Masefield, 1902

I took the above picture yesterday when it was all bright and sunny. Today is all grey. It gets bigger if you click on it.

I was only saying yesterday to hubby that I love that poem and I must make up a book or album in which to keep my favourite poems, quotes, etc.

Very pleased you posted it on your blog today. :)

Glad you liked it, wifey. I was stuck for a blog idea today so I thought a sea poem would be nice and that's one of my favourite ones. It's far better than the one I wrote myself last week. I'm clearly not a poet!

Cheers, Tom.

It is a lovely beach. I've never been to Ayr, but if it looks like that then I must go some time!

Cheers, Tom.

Yesterday morning an awesome experience.When you look west, from my upstairs bedroom window, you can,on a clear day, see to Land's End.I am on a hill with the harbour below and hills above.Yesterday morning at 11.45 the hills looked misty and within minutes "strings of mist" were blowing in.It was unbelievably quick and in no time you could not see a thing.Curtains of mist flowing past my house.By 1 pm ALL GONE and sun shining,WARMLY.

That sounds absolutely lovely. It's very rare you get to see something as amazing as that.
