How Many Seaside Men Can YOU See?

by SeasideMan @ 29/04/08 - 09:42:04

bubbles

I took the above picture yesterday morning. It was somewhat of a surprise when I got it onto my PC to see myself in each of the bubbles. The picture gets bigger if you click on it.

I can’t help but wonder if the bubbles are as a result of detergent in the sea. Spume is natural, but those bubbles look a little too much like what you get from washing up liquid to me.

Cheers, Tom.

Marvellous photo, Tom! Sometimes those shots you don't even think about when you're taking them throw up nice little surprises, huh?

I agree with you. I just saw the pile of bubbles, stuck the camera onto macro mode and snapped it and then was rather surprised later when I saw myself there. I took another one where you can see my hand clearly in the bubble, holding the camera.

I do like these little surprises!

Cheers, Tom.

Thanks, I rather like it too. I'm going to try and take another one in a few minutes, but since I'm trying it probably wont be as good. Ain't that always the way?

Cheers, Tom.

Snap!

It is the naturally occurring proteins in seaweed (alginates etc.) that break down and make foam like that. They are also used in cosmetics!

Wow, that's just the same!

Thanks for the explanation. So it probably is natural after all then. I find that to be quite a relief.

Someone (it wasn't you, was it?) posted a picture here a while back of a lot of shampoo bottles they'd collected from the beach. Maybe the seaweed in the shampoo was trying to get back into nature again :-)

Cheers, Tom.

Yes, 'twas I.

A load of old rubbish

Ah, good, my memory isn't giving up on me yet! It was those shampoo bottles that made me think of detergent. But I suppose it would take a huge amount of it to impact a body of water as large as all the interconnected seas and oceans of the world.

I must make another environmental blog soon.

Cheers, Tom.

Well, there are all sorts of chemicals in the sea nowadays so I suppose washing up liquid is undoubtedly one of them...must be concentrated...:) Nice pic even if a sign of pollution...big hugs...XX

According to Lois (see above) it may not be pollution.

I'm glad you liked the picture anyway.

Cheers, Tom.

Good grief!! What a terrible way to treat the earth...it's beyond my comprehension why people do it and think nothing of it...I know I've said it before but human beings really are a filthy species...well, some of us are, but I see no way of changing these practices unless the young are educated from an early age that this is unacceptable and lethal for the planet in the end....big hugs..

I agree, it's appalling the way some people treat this lovely Earth of ours. Kids do get taught about environmental issues now from a very young age, but some of them still seem to grow up not caring. It saddens me to see so much pollution everywhere.

Tom.
