“Sky of Blue and Sea of Green……

In My Yellow Submarine”

I’ve never been much of a fan of The Beatles, to be honest. I always found them a bit twee and irritating, and Yellow Submarine sums this up perfectly: it is possibly the most irritating song of all time. Every other protest or march where the police attend seems to end up with all the activists chanting “We All Live In A Fascist Regime” to the tune, as they are dragged away in handcuffs.

My only reason for mentioning the song was because the picture above reminded me of it. The sea normally looks much more blue, as on yesterday’s blog picture, but looks very green here when the sky is clearly blue. I didn’t know why, so I looked into it and the answer, apparently, is algae and plankton. It’s very windy, and that must have brought all the plankton and algae out…or something.

Here is a jazz version of the song:

Well I never knew that :O Thanks for clearing that mystery up, I've asked myself the same question for years lol. I loathe that song too, I think loads of people will agree with you there :)

I learned something too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand that song too!

Cheers, Tom.

But didn't Ringo write Yellow Submarine?

And he was responsible for Octopus(is) Garden. That's worse surely?

No, Yellow Submarine is a Lennon/McCartney song.

Octopus's Garden is credited to Starr, but most of the composition was probably by Harrison. It's just a matter of taste which one is the worst, and I agree there is little to the credit of either of them.

Yes, nature surely rules the waves.

Chortled to self at protest version.

I can see what you mean about chintziness at times, but i think The White Album's a belter (if you skip oh bla di, oh bla da. We sang it constantly when i was at primary school during 'music time' though so I've fond memories even of that one...)

White Album is the best of a bad bunch, but about half of that is padding. At half the length it could have been good.
