I Couldn’t Choose, So Shall We Have Both Of Them?

The hottest day of the year so far also produced one of the most colourful sunsets of the year. So two pictures of it above - click on them to enlarge them.

A while ago, I made a post on sunsets and why they are so often so colourful here at the coast. This one:

http://seasideman.blog.co.uk/2008/04/28/where-the-blue-of-the-night-meets-the-go-4104250

It’s because of dust and moisture in the air. We had both today. The heat and wind will have raised dust, and then about an hour before sundown it started raining and stopped again just in time for the displays above. There was a stunning double rainbow for a while too. This one:

Cheers, Tom.

Thanks, I think sunset is my favourite time of day.

Tom.

Wonderful!! Damn, we never see sunsets like this down here...I do look out for them but there's never any this colourful...I remember sunsets like this in London when I used to cross the bridge by the now Tate Modern with the four great chimneys....as I sat on the bus going home to Balham, sunsets like these were a regular occurrence and I sat spellbound watching them...magnificient...always watch the skies on buses and train journeys too...it's an endless display of breathtaking vistas...great big hugs...XX

Morning, Jen. This is one of the benefits of the West coast.

It's possible that reduced pollution has reduced the quality of the sunsets in London.

Tom.

And down here for sure!! Miss this wonderful scenes...great big hugs...

Oh WOW , that rainbow sunset especially is enchanting. I've never seen anything like it before. Thanks for sharing . I needed something to cheer me up after my terrible deed just now :(

Terrible deed???

Honestly, that rainbow picture doesn't do justice to nature at ALL. The colours in the sky were simply unbelievable and the camera only has a pale facsimile of them.

I believe you. The camera does cannot capture it in all its beauty , but that picture is nevertheless amazing. Thanks for sharing. I love rainbows :)

Mrs Pidge laid an egg and I ..errr.. disposed of it :(

Not unlike what we enjoy here in NZ. You might get round to posting one or two on 'Weathercheck' if/when you find the time.

Excellent idea, Skip. I will do that later.

Evening Tom,
Beautiful photos. Sunset is my favourite time of the day also. I often race up to the top of the village with my dog just to capture the moment!

Good evening.

It was particularly stunning yesterday because of the rain and the very hot day. We had another double rainbow again tonight. It's too cloudy for any really good shots tonight, so I just tried to take some big waves, but my battery ran out half way. DOH! So it's recharging now before I can even see what I have got, and of course I can't take any more now. Double DOH!

Thanks, a double one too. We get those a fair bit here, because of all the water and the sun setting in front of the house.

Your pictures are lovely, some of the best sunsets I ever saw were in Florida viewed from Clearwater Beach with hubby - very romantic, just like on the postcards. I probably have pictures somewhere, but they were taken in my pre-digital days, so will be stashed in the old suitcase somewhere, with a few hundred other photos (in random order)

Thanks, I'd like to see your Florida sunsets if you ever get the inclination to search for them.

Tom.
