Ain’t That Always The Way?

july_wave

I went onto the beach several times last night, dragging Dan with me,  to try and take a picture for my blog today, but none of them had really worked. It was very cloudy and my attempts at pictures in the occasional flashes of sunlight were all unsatisfactory. I resigned myself to using the above picture of a crashing wave, which I’d been lucky enough to get when a shaft of sunlight lit it up nicely. I quite like the splashing, but I know it isn’t a “good” picture.

Then about 20 minutes later, I happened to glance out of the window and there was a whole line of people silhouetted against the now much less cloudy sky. Of course, the sun was now down, but I do rather like the below image. I didn’t quite get the best shot as it took me 30 seconds or so to run downstairs for my camera and get out onto the balcony, but I am quite pleased with this shot anyway.

There is a youth hostel about 200 metres to the right of the house, and that’s probably where those people were headed, after having been into the village for the evening.

Cheers, Tom.

! What do you mean it's not a good picture?!

Perhaps I was being a little harsh. I don't think it's one of my better ones though.

Thanks, then it seems I am mistaken. Won't be the first time or the last!

the silhouette one could be vastly improved by cropping the middle woman(?) so ahe looks alone in a huge sky. don't be scared of photoshop. i dunno if i like the splashy one either - i've seen some really wonderful splashy ones you've taken

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it and see how it looks.

As I hinted at in my post, I'm not too happy with the splash picture either, but a few other people seem to like it.

I love the sky in the second one, it's amazing. I'm always cropping pix, but then I do it as part of my job - much to our photographer's horror, I am sure.

I prefer not to crop, as I think it improves a photographer's skill if they learn to try and compose the shot correctly the first time. But I do it sometimes anyway if there's a potentially good shot marred by something easily removed :-)

Great splashes! Love the picture as usual. :)

Thanks. I need more practice at photographing splashes, but I'm getting better I think.
