A Bit Black Over Bill’s Mother’s

In some parts of the world, the weather is mostly predictable. Not here though. For the last few weeks it has been advisable to go out with a coat whatever the weather looks like, as if it’s good now it probably will have changed before you get back. Ditto sunglasses. It might be a bit black over Bill’s Mother’s when you leave, but you’ll be dazzled before you get back.

I’ve tried to show this with the above two pictures. They were both taken yesterday afternoon, within half an hour of each other, in the same place. Click on them to make them bigger.

Cheers, Tom.

Is that what's heading this way?!

(The weather, I mean, not the dog!)

The gales have blown over for the moment, but it feels like they'll be back. It's been a wild and changeable few weeks.

Tom.

Certainly has and the forecast for the next couple of weeks is similar...:-/

Bill's mother? Who is she? lol

Loving the black skies at the moment they are awesome! And the quick change arounds....love the contrasts.

What a big stick for a little dog. I saw a small dog yesterday who had picked up almost a whole tree in his mouth and was running to give it to his owner, leaves and all. :))

What beautiful photos and such a gorgeous bay!

That's an old Lincolnshire expression.

The contrast between light and dark has been incredibly stark recently, and it's great for photography.

That was a biggish stick, but it was very dry and brittle and didn't weigh much. It's really funny when you see a tiny dog trying to drag a log though!

Lincolnshire???
that explains why I recognise it...
Followed a car the other day with a bumper sticker that said:
'Proud to be a Yellow Belly'.
Now, what does that mean to you... hmmmm???

Oh yes, I'm a Yellow Belly. I wouldn't want it on a car though!

Still there, or another exile? (there's a lot of us about).
The car sticker I saw was in deepest Beds - I was behind it at a t-junction - I considered honking and waving, but thought better of it :)
Thinking about 'Bill's mother's', I'm pretty sure my Dad used to say it - but I always assumed it was just him - he was always saying stuff like that!

Well go to the foot of our stairs!

That's another one. I've got a book of Lincs dialect, it's fascinating. I'm from Boston originally, but currently living on the West coast of Wales near Aberystwyth. About as far from the Yellow Bellies as I could get, accidentally.

I STILL say that one :)) - mostly because, again, I always thought it was one of Dad's!
My home town was actually in Humberside most of my life, but when I was born it was Lincs, and now it is again!
My Dad was a Meggie - ring any bells? Mum was born in Lancashire, but HER mum was from Grimsby, and brought her family back to live in Cleethorpes when she was widowed, when my Mum was still a girl.
I still have loads of cousins in Lincs - more than I'm aware of, no doubt - but since my Mum and Dad passed away I just don't feel the urge to go back . Sad to say, I think it's the kind of place everyone likes to get nostalgic about, but no one ever really wants to return to.
OK - really left-field here - do you know anything about this guy?

I didn't know what a Meggie was, so I looked it up. Cleethorpes is it?

I know he is an outstanding folk guitarist, but almost nothing else about him. There are quite a lot of influences from round the world on his playing and that gives him a pretty unique sound.

Meggie=Cleethorpes - correct!
Martin lived next door but one to us in Scunthorpe when we were growing up.
I like to describe him as my childhood sweetheart - on the evidence that I was told we were caught cuddling in the street when he was 3 and I was 2! :))
But I only really caught up with his career very recently.
So the connection is Lincs. I was just curious as to whether you'd heard of him. He is a pretty amazing guitarist.

Gosh, you grew up with someone famous. No-one famous went to my school or lived on my street. Apart from that murderer and that's not exactly fame.

Maybe we should start a game - bit like 'Famous Belgians',
But 'Famous Yellow Bellies'.
We each take it in turns to suggest one.
The one who has to resort to Maggie Thatcher loses :))

Wimbledon is definitely the place to be. Not only a fortnight of near perfect weather but strawberries and ice-cream as well.
