I’m Looking at the Big Sky!

by SeasideMan @ 11/07/08 - 09:28:05

good_sky

I’m originally from the fenlands of Lincolnshire, and one thing that shares with a sea view is flatness. No hills, few trees, nothing to get in the way of the horizon. That’s why the sky looks so massive at the seaside. It’s hard to photograph the sky because of it‘s dimensions, but when it’s as dramatic as the above sky, it does make things a little easier.

Here is Kate Bush’s rather peculiar video for “The Big Sky”. I haven’t a clue what it’s supposed to be about:

i fink the vid/song is about perspective, innit? the silver jump suit remains entirely without explanation unless it's meant to be a flightsuit - pilots having a different perspective to us lowly ground dwellers. possibly. it WAS the 80s...

how are you?

Maybe...

I'm as happy as a sandboy, thanks for asking.

I bet you get excited about it when it arrives, all gleaming and buttony. I'm expecting pictures very soon, you know...

That is a good pic' I could see that one as a piece of wall art. As for Kate's big sky, I'm with you, not a clue what she was singing about, I got bored about half way through.

Thanks, Marika.

Kate Bush is an utter musical genius, one of a kind, superb, the voice of a generation. But I do wish that she'd stuck to just music and not tried to make headway in the video world. I admire her music so much there are no words for it, but her videos on the whole are dire.

Strange. I prefer taking photos of a resticted nature yet I prefer to view those of a wide expanse. Crazy!

Your desires and abilities are misaligned then... As they are for most of us.

Open vistas make me feel comfortable, but I know that's a quirk of my upbringing.

Pictures of one of my fave places accompanied by music from one of my fave artists! What more could I ask for?

It's nice to come across another Kate fan. Isn't she wonderful? I think Aerial is probably her best album. Would you agree?

To be honest I lost touch with her a bit. I got The Kick Inside and Lionheart albums in my teens and love them. I've also got the Whole story and Red Shoes is it? However, I,ve not got anything recent.

My fave track is still Cloudbusting

I didn't like "The Red Shoes" much, to be honest.

This was the single off her newest album:

What do you think of that?

no, didn;t do much for me either. Doesn't get played much.

Can't say as this track grabbed me

Fair enough.

I do like King of the Mountain though, and the rest of the new album too.

What new music has really grabbed you by the scruff of the neck recently?

The last bands to really get me going recently have been Linkin Park, Evanesence and Within Temptation

Within Temptation are a new name to me. Thanks for it, I'll look them up. Are there any specific tracks you'd recommend?

Evanescence interested me for a while. That one famous album they did was pretty good and had a great sound about it. I found it got stale pretty quickly though.

Linkin Park never did anything for me at all, but I'm pretty hard to please.

Cheers, Tom.

Angels and Stand My Ground are great tracks to start off with.

The guy in Linkin Park has a great voice. Wide ranging.

Evanesence are a little depressing but Amy Lee is gorgeous!

No argument on that: Amy Lee is gorgeous!

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have a listen.
