I Don’t Believe It!

Almost every time someone comes to visit us, down comes the rain. My mum is staying for 4 days, and the forecast is rain, rain, sunny spells with rain, and rain. How is this possible? The BBC should tie me into their forecasts: Anyone visiting Tom this weekend? Yes. OK, let’s scrap the sunny forecast and announce rain, it’s bound to be right.

But we don’t mind. We’ve just watched an utterly hilarious episode of “One Foot In The Grave” that came free with a newspaper and the world seems like a great place. Victor Meldrew is so utterly British it’s astonishing. He’s everything we detest and everything we admire all rolled into one.

The above picture is an old one from December as yesterday was the first day for a very long time when I took almost no pictures.

Cheers, Tom.

I think we can give up on ever seeing a proper July...LOL...heard the reason why our weather are so erratic...we're subject to five different weather systems and any one of them can kick it with little warning...hmmm...trust us not even to be able to make up our minds what type of weather we're going to get...:)Enjoy your Mum's visit...and very nice colours on that pic...even if from December...GBHs...

here's the inf...thought it was interesting...
Helpful people in the know on geographical meteorology have commented that the general situation with the UK weather is even more complex, as many different factors contribute to the changeable weather. As well as the North Atlantic drift, and the topography, there is the fact that the UK is affected by five major air masses: The tropical maritime Gulf Stream, the Polar Maritime air from the North, the Arctic Maritime, the Polar Continental (from Siberia), and the Tropical Continental (from Northern Africa). There's also fast flowing air in Jet Streams (which although shown in weather reports in the USA, are oddly kept secret in UK weather reports). Air goes around in convection currents in Hadley Cells and in Ferrel Cells. Because the British Isles can get weather coming from hot or cold zones, and from land or sea, a changeable hot/cold wet/dry weather is found.

Ooh, that's interesting about the 5 weather systems. Thanks, I hadn't heard that.

Mum and Helen are out walking the dog in the rain at the moment while I stay in. Luxury!

Cheers, Tom.

Yes, I thought it was as well...didn't realise how hard it must be to predict what weather we're going to have through this...that must be fun...walking the dog in the rain...HLOL...enjoy your peaceful time...great big hugs...XX

I knew it would rain because I'm going to a caravan for a week with Wor Lass and the kids tommorow. Bloody typical. Bet it rains all next week!

I have indeed, many times :-)

I am a HUGE Father Ted fan. I love all of it, and it's probably my all-time favourite comedy, right up there with League of Gentlemen, Fawlty Towers and Green Wing.

LOVE all of those, but Sue White from the Green Wing is just soooooooo nomable!

"nomable"???

She's an awesome character, played perfectly by Michelle Gomez. Did you ever see The Book Group? That's another of my favourite series, and she's stunning as Janice in that too. I have no idea what she's done since...

I vaguely remember the book group, but only in the far back mists of my memory :-/

Funny, the BBc this morning just announced "Tom Weather" for the country today and left it at that! Rain for us all I believe!

Haha :-)

We've just spent a day in Aberystwyth getting soaked - total downpour all day. Now we're back, it's stopped...of course.

Question - Does Aberystwyth University still have the highest suicide rate of any University in the country? A friend's son might be going there!

I hadn't heard that! I'll find out...

The weather is so miserable, humid, dull... but on the other hand my 'first attempt' kitchen garden is growing.... :-) but.... the birds are helping themselves to the cabbage & strawberries!!
I dont' believe it

The rain must be good for the plants.

But it's good to know that I'm not the only one to have an "I don't believe it!" moment :-)

Thanks, that was very early days for my photography. I'm looking forward to the winter again (not that I dislike the summer!) because the light is very sharp and clear.

Tom.
