David Byrne’s song Stay Up Late applies just as well to dogs as to babies. They can provide endless entertainment “with no money”. Dan didn’t seem to mind having Helen’s glasses on his face at all, in fact he seemed to like it. I suppose it was just the attention from the pack leaders. I think they rather suit him too!
Talking Heads were a very innovative band back then, and David Byrne’s fast choppy guitar style influenced a whole rash of later bands. This isn’t one of their great songs, but I like it and it applies perfectly to us dressing up the doggie! Video and lyrics below.
“Mommy had. a little baby.
There he is. fast asleep.
He’s just. a little plaything.
Why not. wake him up?
Cute. cute. little baby.
Little feet. little toes.
Now he’s coming to me.
Crawl across. the kitchen floor.
Baby, baby, please let me hold him
I wanna make him stay up all night
Sister, sister, he’s just a plaything
We wanna make him stay up all night
See him drink. from a bottle.
See him eat. from a plate.
Cute. cute. as a button.
Don’t you wanna make him. stay up late.
And were having fun. with no money.
Little smile. on his face.
Don’t cha love. the little baby.
Don’t you want to make him. stay up late
…
And he looks so cute in his little red suit”
Cheers, Tom.
