Really, it is. I took that yesterday morning at about 10AM. About 15 minutes later, it was like this:

It’s hard to believe the difference between the two pictures in such a short space of time if you aren’t used to it, but living on the coast has shown me how quickly the weather can change. In just a few minutes it can go from bright sunshine to heavy rain and then back to sunshine again. From our living room, we can see storms over the sea approaching, the angled lines and pattern of light being very distinctive. Then when the storm has passed, we can see similar lines of light that indicate that the sun has broken through in the distance and will soon do so over us.

Going out for a walk requires both rain-hat and sunglasses.

Seeing storms pass in this way is a feature of living somewhere with a completely flat aspect and nothing obscuring the view. Residents in parts of my home county of Lincolnshire on the East Coast of England see similar weather movements.

It’s fascinating watching the ever-changing weather patterns here, and they give many opportunities for a budding photographer such as myself. Last night, we had this (note the tinge of sun on the left!):
