Waiting to develop film is horrible. I took two rolls of film yesterday and I’ve had to wait until this morning to develop them and then print them. I’ll know in about 3 hours how they turned out. It’s easy to see why so many photographers moved over to digital. You can see the results immediately and print them in seconds with no messing about with trays of chemicals in dark-rooms.
But when you see the great quality of the photographs that the best black and white film photographers have produced over the years, it’s easy to see why it’s worth putting the effort in. If you want, you get complete control over the images with this method. You choose the aperture and exposure for your picture, and then choose how to develop it and print it. A true combination of art and science.
The above is a snap from my digital camera taken last night.
Cheers, Tom.

Nothing beats the magic of seeing a print swimming into view in the darkroom! But it's just as possible to be as controlled and creative with digital, if you have the camera and software to do it (which of course means spending £100s at the outset - but not having ongoing film costs.)
