perspective

There’s a very funny moment in the television series Father Ted, where the slightly less stupid priest (Ted)  is trying to explain perspective to the very stupid priest (Dougal). Using small plastic cows and pointing at real cows outside, he says :

“These Cows Are Small, Those Cows Are Far Away!”

But it’s no good, Dougal can’t get his head round it. When I took the picture above, it looked for a moment as if tiny dogs were worshipping a huge obelisk, but in reality the petrified tree root is no more than about 30cm tall, and the dogs are 25 metres away.

I bought something off eBay for the first time last night, a Nikon camera. I was the only person to bid on it, so I got it for a great price and all being well it should arrive later this week. It’s easy to see how people get addicted to bidding for things on auction sites. I had quite an adrenaline rush as the final seconds counted down, ready to quickly make another bid if necessary. I waited until the last minute to make my bid of the reserve price, and no-one else bothered so that was it. Great stuff! My fear of being ripped off is high, but my seller appear to be reputable and if it all does go wrong, I haven’t lost much. But if it does go well, I’ll definitely buy from auction sites again.

Cheers, Tom.
