I haven't talked about the housing market on my blog so far, but I heard two things yesterday that I want to mention now.
1. A friend of mine who lives Oop North has been trying to sell his house because his wife is due to have their second child in 2 weeks. Their house was put on the market a year ago at £125,000. 3 months ago, they dropped the price to £105,000. Now, it's down to £99,950. Nothing, no interest at all.
2. A solicitor's company near where my mum lives are on the verge of going bust as their core business was dealing with housing and no houses are selling. All the staff will lose their jobs and may struggle to find others.
Both of these situations are familiar to me. I lived in Lancashire in the 1990s and lost a fortune on a house by buying at a highpoint and selling at a low point. That hurt, but we got over it in order to keep moving forwards. And then in about 2004 I was working for a company that were steadily offloading their staff and the atmosphere was, to say the least, grim.
So, if you are affected by the current situation, I know how you feel. Think about what options you have and just keep plodding on. Things will get better, they always do, eventually. And at least property is cheaper now.
Cheers, Tom.

b. loft conversions and extensions are now skyrocketing as people give up on selling and just make do with the space available.
