Morning, Sandra. I agree, he had a great voice. He was a baritone, along with David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
Cheers, Tom.-

Jim Morrison lives on in our hearts...forever the beautiful young man that he was

Indeed, his words were beautiful and so was he.

His father died recently and we saw Jim Morrison the week before he died in London...he wanted to go into the record shop that Ray worked in at the time, but it was closed...we met up with friends outside it over the road about to go down to the house we would eventually live in as a commune...we tossed up whether to invite him down but thought that it would be an infringement of his privacy...he was very different in appearance then...too many died young...GBHs...XXX

Gosh, what a shame you couldn't have met him. Hendrix and Joplin went at more or less the same time: what a terrible loss those three were.

I play Joplin all the time now on Last.fm...she was really something...so much power and emotion...actually I'm listening to another singer I love at the mo...Bette Midler...love her as a comedian but great singer too...and yes, it did cross our minds he might have been distracted if we'd spoken to him and invited him down...hmmm...I think of all those who died so young...also listen to Phil Ochs a lot and he really was so brilliant...Frank Zappa's just come on...HLOL...GBHs...XXX

I only like a small amount of Midler's music, but her voice is incredibly powerful. I miss FZ...

Her concerts are terrific...full of life and I like women with powerful voices...Tina Turner was another...Maria Callas in the operatic world was superb...GBHs...XXX

Tina Turner is on tour right now, and she's the same age as my mum! She's been a successful singer since 1960. I agree, she is amazing.
This however remains the most powerful female vocal performance I have ever seen:

I tear up every time I hear that.

Yes, indeed! That's another woman with a marvellous voice...some of the old jazz singers were great too...Bessie Smith and her ilk...the power of their voices go right deep inside you...I didn't realise Tina Turner was doing yet another tour!! I thought she'd retired...well, actually, I think she's done it twice before...LOL...first I've heard she's on the road again...GBHs...XX

Yup, she's playing a few dates in London in March:

Yup, Bessie Smith is another incredible voice. Mahalia Jackson too, in a different genre again.

I must admit, I'd like to see her do some new stuff...does seem to be a churning out of all her previous hits...she's still dynamic but I felt with her last concerts that she was slowing down quite a bit...not surprising considering her age, but she's clearly incredibly popular still...excellent for the mature women of our world to see somebody with so much energy and drive still...LOL...Another singer with what I would class as a perfect voice was Ella Fitzgerald...her tone control was absolute perfection...and I agree about Mahalia Jackson too...GBHs...XXX

I'll see your Ella Fitzgerald and raise you Aretha Franklin :-)

LOL...we could go on for a long time...there's a heck of a lot of powerful women singers around, but have you noticed most are from the past or are in the older age bracket...maybe the modern singers don't have the lungs anymore...GBHs...XX

They still exist in the jazz and opera worlds, and metal too, but maybe less in more mainstream music.

He didn't even reach 28 :-(
Same age as Hendrix, I think.
