Purple and Black

Purple has come up a few times recently. One sunset a few days ago, the sea was vividly purple. Yesterday someone mentioned Prince's Purple Rain. Today I saw the purple-ish brick above and earlier on I heard some Deep Purple. Black Night, in fact:

I used to be a huge fan of Deep Purple and I'm pleased to report that I still like many of their songs a lot. That one from June 1970 has stood the test of time rather well, I think.

Interestingly, Richie Blackmore got the riff for the song from Rickie Nelson's version of the song Summertime from 1962:

Tom, good morning! the purple stone is beautiful! I love stones and when i walk on the beach i see some but normal color. The second song reminds me so many movies and my childhood!

  Summertime is a lovely song (and a lovely time of year too), and has been done in many different ways. The Rickie Nelson one I posted is quite unusual. This one by Janis Joplin is perhaps my favourite:

        I have a small collection too. I will take some pictures of them! There are many kinds of shells along the beach in Santos. I cannot wait to see the dog's walk!!!

Do you think the rocks appear purple because of the way the sun hits them?

  Ay up. Yes, I do. The same rock can vary from light gray to blue to purple depending on the time of day and the way the sun is hitting it. They get much darker if they are wet too.

Sorry, Tom, having a hard time finding purple in the stones...a light mauve maybe but purple??...missing that colour completely... It's a love hue whatever you call it... GBHs...XXX

  It looked (light) purple in real life, but does look less so on my monitor and perhaps does even less so on yours.

    Okay...I'll give you that...monitors vary greatly...but do wonder what you call purple because Ray and I disagree on what is defined as purple as well in real life... And not really re Deep Purple...I did enjoy some of their music but not a great fan...GBHs...XXX

        That's interesting because I can see the purples clearly on my monitor screen but can't see any in your stones??? I think I would have mixed the colours to get the stone shade...maybe I'm looking with a painter's eye...colour precision and all that...LOL...GBHs...XXX

        I see what has happened now - you asked me what colour the sea was, not the stones. Scan back up a bit:
        
        "Tell me if the sea was any of these purples"
        
        That's what I answered. I'd put the rock as having some 86032N, some 86023D and a host of other colours too.
        
        Phew, I'm not going mad :-)

I did, that's right...I asked because you said the stones were purplish like the sea...so I asked what colour was the sea...oh, well, you might have a good colour chart available now for future reference...it's a good one... I think it might be wise now to call this a day...HLOL...GBHs...XXX
