It's a source of comfort to me to know that they can never turn this place into a hideous monstrosity by building any horrible houses or factories, or sticking a supermarket close-by. The village is on a shingle bank with the sea one side and a bog at the back. To make things even better, the bog is a "Site of Special Scientific Interest". It is thus impossible for the village to expand widthways. Expanding lengthways is also unlikely because the only thing between The Last House On The Left and the Dovey Estuary you can see at the top of the picture is the golf course. The other end of the village: Steep hills that would be most inadvisable to try and build on.

Even if someone somehow managed to get some land fit for building, there aren't enough people living here to justify shops and there are no jobs.

But there is a down side: global warming. If there is one thing susceptible to a rise in sea level, it's a shingle bank. Hopefully, we'll be safe for a couple of decades, but who knows what will happen to property prices here in that time?

Cheers, Tom.

P.S. There is a huge high tide right now, the highest since we've been here (no doubt related to the proximity of the moon). I would try and photograph it, but it’s greyer than a very very grey thing out there, unfortunately.
