Helen looks so at ease with the camera too - that does help

-
- 17/06/09 @ 10:05:53
Yes, she makes a great subject for me. I'm quite keen to have a go with children now. That will be more of a challenge as they move around more!

True

It's a good 'un. That short depth of field (is that the right technical term?!) really works.
-
- 17/06/09 @ 10:35:10
Yes, short DoF. It really does make the subject stand out well.

Tom, glad you love the lens, maybe you will abuse the 1.8 setting for a while because you can!!! ( I still do ) Now.... the beauty of this lens is you can go candid, so fast, no offence but ask anyone to smile..... more times than not, ermmmm, false expression!!!!!
Regards,Steve-
- 17/06/09 @ 13:05:02
I think I'd prefer a fake smile to a glower, but candid would be even better. I certainly plan to abuse the f1.8 as much as I can!
I will be moving to Raw soon, promise :-)

Helen is beautiful, I see we both like the red haired lovelies
Great pic, I see what you mean about the depth of field and focus being just where you want it to be. I used to do that with my SLR camera, but digital is the way forward I know I just miss being able to take pics with focus just where you want it to be. I have terrible trouble with that with my cheap digital.

Ah Rosie, there is so much to be said for film photography and it still has it's place - I have 3 film cameras and my own darkroom, but I don't use them anywhere near as much as I should do. It was using film that taught me how to do it properly and really understand what is going on. For a newcomer with a "point and shoot" digital it must seem like magic. At least you have that basic knowledge.

Lovely portrait of Helen. Her smile is that of the Mona Lisa - enigmatic. She was 'allowing' you to take her photo!
We are glad she did allow you for there is also a lovely one inside your photo album. I'm going there in a minute and give it five stars!-
- 17/06/09 @ 19:25:13
Thanks Charlotte. I'll definitely be doing more portraits :-)

That is a lovely portrait of Helen. You have captured the essence of her as well as all those lovely freckes!
She has beautiful colouring, if she has the patience to sit for you, there are endless possibilities for you to capture her moods and images.
Well done.-

Thanks Marje. I was quite quick - I got the camera set up with what should have been the right settings first and then took a sequence of pictures, tweaking the settings as I went.
Helen will be very pleased to read your lovely words, thankyou.
