It's a Nikon 70-300mm Zoom lens. Not the best lens in the world by a long way, but my funds are limited and it fills a hole in my equipment. If I ever get rich (unlikely!) I'll replace it with a much better one.
Tom.-

Sounds fab, looking forward to seeing how you get on.

-

Thanks, I should have it in 3 or 4 days :-)

But Tom, what lens is it?
-
- 05/07/09 @ 22:31:07
Nikon 70-300 zoom. I've been missing a long range lens for a while now...

I love my Canon 55-250 almost as much as the 10-22 wide angle. Both have image stabilisation, which is vital for the telephoto lens. Goodnight!

This isn't the Vibration Reduction version (couldn't afford it) but it gives me more choices, and I do have a good tripod. Night!

Brilliant Tom! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Bushka, hopefully I'll be taking a few more like this from now on!

Right Tom, now to get cammoed up

I use my 70-300mm primarily for macro, zoo or feeding stations. Find it a little short for small birds - even the 500mm lacks there.
But.
And it's a big one....
I hope to see your posts in Wildbrit!
Enjoy

Ah, but since I have a half-frame DX Nikon D90, that 300mm is effectively 450mm. Still a little on the short side (I really wanted a 600mm prime but they cost over 5 grand) but still a huge improvement over what I have now :-)

I'm not happy!
All my photos from the exhibition are blurry.
New camera and no patience to read the instructions, I say!
But I read it now ans hopefully it will work tomorrow.
Or maybe you should came and take the pics!

Oh, that's a shame :-(
A tripod would help you - do you have one?-
- 06/07/09 @ 21:40:55
No, I don't, I think it would help

Thats a coincidence, we've had a good clearout today and found my old Vivitar + Vivitar 35-70 lens and the Tokina 70-210 + 2x converter, hard & soft filters, anti vignetting hoods, adapters, sky filters, polarizing filters....etc.
I was like a kid in a sweet shop. We've got one of those giant flash guns as well, complete with 4 coloured filters, takes 6 AA batteries and even Duracell only got about 10 shots before they died....You needed a packhorse.-

- 06/07/09 @ 12:34:08

robins are my favourite bird i think. although i do love a woodcock...-
- 06/07/09 @ 13:05:06
I like the Robins, but I think my favourite would have to be the Bluetit - they just look so cute flitting about!
-
- 06/07/09 @ 15:15:27
Beautiful pic of robin
Lens buying is addictive my cousin started on ebay then he went wild and bought one for £1,000!!!! ON A LENS!!! I have no idea what kind but if it helps it was white and sports photographers use them alot.

I made a wish-list of lenses I wanted recently and it came to £10,000. Whoops - no chance! If I manage to become a professional photographer (which I want to do) then I may be able to spend a bit more on lenses as a legitimate business expense. For the moment I have to keep on dreaming. That's fine, I'm a good dreamer :-)

I love to see the little birds flitting around. There were loads of sparrows in the yard outside my window this afternoon, flying all over the place after little flies!
