It was scarecrow and picnic day on the allotment yesterday. 18 scarecrows were specially made, and even though it wasn't "competitive", there was a winner. Everyone had a great time, and some gardening even got done!

Obviously a wonderfully creative and enjoyable time was had by all! 
A few glittery foil streamers in their hands to give unexpected movement would complete the task That way the birds won't get used to them - heehee!

Our allotment is one of the poorer ones as we neglected it this year. WBut even so we have a couple of huge marrows, we had a few potatoes and the shallots and leeks are still doing nicely.

Pro I see a new years resolution coming on then? I think it is a huge achievement to grow your own, if i had the room and the time I would think about it, I get as far as herbs in pots!

Pro It's a village, with a population just under 1000. It's not at all boring here, although it does get quieter in the winter.

That is nice, not too much and not too less population. You know your neighbors. Winter, it is the same in Carinthia when no tourists there, some places are like ghost cities.

Pro Ot gets much busier in summer, I think the population goes up to about 3000 for the summer months.

Scariest one iv ever seen was on Bodmin Moor, there was a maypole errected in the centre with about 5 scarecrow children placed around it.
It was getting dark when we found it, we were lost on the moors, most spooky. Iv never seen it done that way since but do wish id taken a photograph.

well as we drove away we were all making up scary stories. Naughty children taken away by the scarecrow king and made to dance round the maypole forever, begging to be let free from the dancing spell he put upon them.

Wow, a lot different than what we have here...usually dressed as a farm. I did one once, dressed as a hillbilly when I was a teenager. He had a pumpkin head, with a corncob pipe stuck in his mouth, complete with a floppy hat, jeans and flannel shirt and a "jug" of moonshine and a toy flintlock musket. I didn't have any hay, so stuffed him full of dead leaves--they work just as well.
