October 24th - 350 Action Day

"350 is what scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere"

We're calling on people around the world to organize an action on October 24 incorporating the number 350 at an iconic place in their community, and then upload a photo of their event to 350.org website.

We'll collect these images from around the world and, with your help, deliver them to the media and world leaders. Together, we can show our world and it's decision-makers just how big, beautiful, and unified the climate movement really is.

To get involved, just start or join an event in your community by clicking the big orange buttons on the http://www.350.org/ home-page. Also, make sure to sign onto the pledge on the front-page of 350.org--you'll be adding your name to the largest ever global climate mandate, and making sure that you stayed looped into the latest news from the international climate movement.

Hubby is currently testing an alternative source of energy - so fingers crossed it will help, cos switching off lights isn't gonna be nearly enough! This is a great cause, love the pics x

read a really interesting article in the times' new science magazine yesterday about using phosphorescent (sp?) algae to light streets, billboards etc. fascinating.

  Fascinating idea! I must seek out that article. Another thing that has been suggested is painting large areas of the world white. Even house roofs would make a difference.

  It really sounds like a great idea, and we could do with lots of us publicizing it! There is a big event happening here on Borth beach, and I'll be photographing it. Amongst other things, they are going to dig a big hole and get people in wetsuits (and possibly Scuba) to sit in it as the tide comes in. Very symbolic!

  Hi Jen, I'm not sure what pictures they are interested in. You can certainly upload any pictures you like to their site; I'll be sending a few of the day's fun from here.
  
  It's good that there is an event near you. I thought there would be as this really does seem to be a major event.

    I think it's pics of the events so will grab my camera... Hope it's not raining...down fancy standing around for two hours in the rain...:-( If it's anything like today, think we'll probably give it a miss even though a good cause...bucketing for hours this morning and afternoon...GBHs...XXX

Bournemouth has an action event on the West Pier between 12 and 2ish for 350.Action day so we'll go along to that... Thanks for letting us know...GBHs...XXX

  It's a fantastic idea, isn't it. I must get in touch with the event planners here to find out exactly what they are up to, so I know which lenses to use and so forth.
