I wonder if it would be possible to make a room, a perfect cube, and cover all 4 walls, floor and ceiling, with 6 massive photographs to simulate the feeling of standing on one spot in a forest.
Probably not, but it's an intriguing idea.

Pro An idea like that is sure to be pretty ubiquitous, but it could be amusing and practical to do it as a permanent sculpture made of six large disks in the relevant lines of sight. After all we have a restricted cone of visual awareness.

Pro really an interesting idea. And I think that it is feasible. Painters in earlier times had occasion, to change plain church ceilings and walls to a uniform spatial image. What would come in addition, would be the floor.

The perspective could be tricky, especially at the edges.

You have reminded me of going to a circular cinema which projected the film 360 degrees around the audience, who stood in the middle. It gave the impression of being there. One of the clips was of a car driving along a winding road at speed. One guy in the audience even fell over because the effect was so realistic !
I love mountain scenery and I have often wondered what it would be like to put up a huge picture of a mountain scene, so I could pretend I was there.

Pro I'm with Keggy I think this has been done, and I think of all places it is at one to the Disney sites. The of course have gone further and it is a moving picture that does disorientate.
To do this on a square room would be a huge challenge as the viewer would need to stand on the exact spot designated to see it properly. I wish you luck with the corners

Years ago I was in France and we walked into a cube that was designed to look like a bluebell wood with a river running through it. After a few seconds the walls and floor moved so we were then standing on the sky...very disorientating, made me feel a little sick.xxxxx

Ooh, that sounds impressive! I heard of an art installation a while ago that was two video walls facing each other, and you walked between them. It simulated the effect of walking through a forest. Leaves on the floor, bird noises, and you could even see the leaves moving in the wind. I'd love to work on things like that, but it would be horrendously expensive.

as others mentioned, this idea reminds me of going to Epcot in Florida and standing in the center of a huge 360 degree screen. The 'film' was 'Oh Canada', and it was amazing to feel like I was a part of the beautiful landscapes that surrounded me.
Also, I have seen of late, some spectacular 3D sidewalk/street chalk drawings that look so real you would not want to walk on them for fear of falling into them.

I have seen some amazing artwork on the street. I find it pleasing and comforting that some people are prepared to go to so much trouble for something so transient.
