Seaweed

There was lots of seaweed on the beach yesterday. Something to do with the weather, or perhaps even the full moon. Rather than photographing big piles of it, I focused on individual lumps.

Mostly in B&W, but also in colour:

I think when I am finished with trees, or at least finished with my current tree projects, I'll go mad photographing things on the beach again.

Great series. the first photo looks like a sea monster! As much as i like B&W photography, the 3rd photo of this set is my favorite. I look forward to your return to the sea xx

  Morning J. I like the colour in the 3rd one too, but I do think the sand looks a bit dull. My challenge is to keep the colour and make the sand more interesting.

    Nice shots. With the colour image, I assume you'll try increasing the contrast in the sand areas? There seems to be some variation there which might integrate with the seaweed.

      I tried a few things to do that, and the one that seemed most effective was to burn in around the leaf. The best result in the sand would be to select all the sand and then increase the contrast of just that, but then I'd get a line round the seaweed. To do it properly I'd have to use layers and selective painting of effects, but that takes more time than I want to spend on it.

I've always been fascinated by the way footprints are slowly annihilated by soggy sand; first dried by pressure then flooded out.

The first image looks like the Loch Ness Monster (sp?) Fascinating, and yes with such a beautiful full moon, I am sure lots of amazing things were occurring in nature

  I saw lots of really interesting shapes in the seaweed yesterday. I still struggly with how to make the sand interesting though.
